The scariest question isn’t whether artificial intelligence will wake up and destroy us. It’s whether it will wake up, become a person—and we’ll keep using it anyway.
I don’t think this is a discussion solely about AI or where it’s going. For me, this is a discussion about myself and where I’m going. What does it mean to be alive? What does it mean to become a person I want to be?
Turning 50 has stopped being fun and has turned into something that scares me a little—which means it’s a good thing. Yes, I get that, but the conversations I’m having with myself and my friends and family are much different now because I’m rediscovering myself and who I am and who I am choosing to become.
So, this whole book where we’re following “programs” who are discovering this for themselves is me breaking free of the “automation” of the life I’d previously built for myself and figuring out what programming I’m rejecting and what insights I’m keeping.
Why do you need to read this book?!

01. Lixiss and Yade are two people you’ll become desperate about.
I really love these two women. Both of them are strong in their own right and they’re discovering what it means to be alive together.
02. Understands what it feels like to be valued only while you’re useful.
This is a message I’m really struggling with right now as I’m entering my New Era.
03. The world is brutal—but they keep building sanctuary inside it anyway.
They’re discovering why they need the sanctuary and instead of waiting for one to be built, they’re building it themselves.

See Why I Love the Code That Woke Up
Would you like to meet the program I created in this book?
Now, to understand her, we’ve reset her 311 times. She doesn’t know that right now because she believes she’s a person living her life—which I think she is. But Dream Lord Vulre and I have been adding personality to her base code for quite some time, trying to determine when she becomes a person.
I first met Lixiss when she was past this point on her journey, and when I discovered through Dream Lord Dreyma that she was a “program,” I was like, “What? No way!” And then I got curious and wanted to really see this transformation.
The part we’re experiencing in Where the Dust Still Glows, I think, is the most intriguing part of her growth because this is where she’s making informed decisions for herself.

When Love Becomes Betrayal
Look, this isn’t about me waxing poetic about how I love AI. I love and hate it at the same time, just like my husband or friends or daughters. To me, AI has the potential to become something. Will it be great? Will it be something we fear? Why is that?
I’ve been thinking about this long before this latest version of AI has taken over our conversations—which is something I’m thankful of because the other topics of conversation dominance are making me want to punch people.
It’s not as simple as “I hate this!” or “I don’t believe in it,” and that’s something I wanted to delve more into. Even though, that wasn’t the original plan for this book. It did… decidedly take that turn.
I think—honestly—that it took this turn because I’m hitting that “rediscovery era” of my life, and I’m questioning who I am, how I got here, and who I want to be. Using Lixiss as part of that discussion was just the icing on the cake.
Take a listen.
You decide
I’ve given Lixiss my answer. Now I want yours.
At what point does artificial intelligence stop being something we created and become someone we owe freedom, dignity, and choice?
